How Do I know If I Need Therapy-Or Am I Just Overwhelmed is a GREAT question.
First, I would ask you how you feel about therapy? I would also ask you, how do you feel about going to the gym? I often make a comparison for my clients that much like going to the gym is about staying healthy in our body and mind, so too, is therapy much like a workout for keeping your thoughts and perspectives healthy.
I always thought it would be such a great benefit if counselling was provided much like healthcare, in that you are set up and able to access anytime. It could be to review a major life decision or to have a listening ear for a very challenging event that happened in your life.
So, whether you "need" therapy or you are overwhelmed, therapy can be a lovely healthy self-care component in your life. It may be you would benefit from a few tips on setting boundaries to prevent feeling overwhelmed and burnt out or it could be you just need someone to listen.
Therapy is often welcomed by clients as it is seen as a unbiased perspective that can sometimes bring light to a problem that you perhaps have not considered.
But most importantly, if you are feeling alone and not sure what to do, therapy is a safe, judgement free zone to explore, learn strategies in your toolbox and may even help you feel self-compassion which does move us towards healing.
